Want to grow vegetables but don’t know where to start? This is a practical course for beginners who want to start growing produce in their garden or an allotment.

What the course covers:

This hands-on course will focus on a few practical gardening tasks like basic composting, how to plant potatoes, seed sowing, planting out seedlings and how to make and use comfrey and nettle fertilizers. There will be a break in the course for light refreshments and a question and answer session.

By the end of the course participants will have a good understanding of the basic gardening techniques they need to grow organically.

What you will need on the day:

This course will be taught outdoors so dress warmly and wear waterproof shoes and jackets. All tools and materials will be provided by the trainers. Tea, coffee and a light lunch will be provided and there are basic toilet facilities on site.

About the trainers and the site:
Moulescoomb Forest Garden is an award-winning community food project based on eight allotment plots behind Moulescoomb station. It has workdays on Tuesdays and Fridays 10am-3pm. Gardening is taught with an 'open to all, no experience necessary' policy and volunteers get to take home whatever vegetables are growing.

What previous participants on the training course said: "Friendly and practical", "relaxed environment", "knowledgeable tutor."

* In recognition of the current economic climate, and to ensure our courses are as widely accessible as possible, we are trialling a ‘pay what you can’ fee structure. Course places cost approximately £50 each, but are subsidised by our funding from the Big Lottery Fund.  Participants that are able to pay the full suggested price for the course help us to offer the lower rates to others (particularly those on low wages, full-time students or those in receipt of benefits) and to ensure we can continue to run courses in future once our Lottery funding ends in March 2013.

Why not check out the rest of our training programme or download the brochure(pdf)? If you're not sure which course is right for you, please just get in touch.
