Event description:

Level: Allotment-holders and gardeners (this course is for those with an outside space where they can build the wormery, it does not cover indoor options)

composting 018-w200-h200What the course covers:

Stop feeding the landfills and start feeding the soil! Around 25% of household rubbish bins is food waste. Instead of composting and returning this waste to the soil to grow more food, it is ending up dumped in landfills. This is a major breach in the cycle of fertility which cannot continue forever.

Worm bins are the ideal answer for composting kitchen food waste.

composting 012-w200-h200They produce a high quality compost which is unsurpassed by any so-called "compost" from a garden centre. Not only that but they are cheap to build and easy to maintain. This workshop will be very practical with a "Keep it Simple" approach! We will cover the key principles of successful worm composting and help you decide on a setup which is suitable to your needs. You will build a wormery together so you can see all the practical steps to replicate at home. There will of course be lots of free worms available to take away and get you started!

What you will need on the day:

This course will be taught outdoors so please dress warmly and wear waterproof shoes and jackets. All tools and materials will be provided by the trainers. There are toilet facilities on site. Tea, coffee and snacks will be provided.

Trainer: John Fryer of Whitehawk Community Food Project
